    Product Manager - Developer Platform

    Zapier

    Remote
    SaaS
    Mid

    Hi there!

We're looking for a technically minded Product Manager to join the product team at Zapier. The Zapier platform hosts over 750 integrations, and features several developer tools to give SaaS app developers an interface to create their own Zapier integration. Interested in helping design and build a product that helps the world automate their work so they can get back to living? Then read on...

    About You

You are a maker at heart. On a daily basis you'll help plan, coordinate, communicate, design, mock, test, and iterate on Zapier's developer facing product. Today, Zapier serves over 1 million users, enabling them to connect 750+ apps in over a million ways, and we're just getting started.

You are technical. Whether you were an engineer in a previous life or you code in your spare time, you'll drive technically complex projects and be responsible for turning that complexity into a simple user experience. You thrive at abstracting away complexity and delivering tools and processes that help our developers create and maintain their Zapier integrations.

You are a skilled written communicator. Zapier is a 100% remote team and written communication is critical. You'll use summaries and reports to communicate findings, objectives and plans to the team. You'll also help manage the day-to-day cadence of projects in our team's Slack channels.

You've got a strong grasp of API fundamentals. The phrase "a RESTful API using Oauth2" isn't just word salad to you. You've got a few tools you use to test out API endpoints on the fly, and you're not afraid to hit the command line when you need to.

You love talking to developers. Product Managers at Zapier are two-sided. One side is figuring out what we should build next. The other side is making it happen. Talking to the developers who use our platform serves both sides and is essential to success.

You are data driven. You're comfortable with SQL queries. You understand statistical significance. You're able to use that data to improve the experience for the user and meet the goals of the business.

You love doing things efficiently. At Zapier, the work you do will have a disproportionate impact on the business. We believe in systems and processes that let us scale our impact to be larger than ourselves.

You love to set your own course with our shared set of goals. At Zapier, you'll have a weekly project meetings and then you go make things happen. You default to action.

    Things You Might Do

Zapier is a startup, so you'll likely get experience on many different projects across the organization. Here are some things you'll get a taste of:

    • Talk to developers and figure out what we should build next
    • Familiarize yourself with Zapier's technical context so you can make good decisions about projects
    • Plan and execute new developer platform features and enhancements alongside design, engineering, marketing, and data science
    • Write HTML, CSS, and maybe JS to help polish and ship a feature
    • Ship to one of the largest integration platforms in the world
    • Impact thinking around the web about how APIs should be designed through your product choices at Zapier
    • Help conduct A/B tests and other experiments
    • Maintain a high level of autonomy
    • Give back to the community via open source and blog posts
    • Help customers via support to ensure they have the best experience possible
    • Experiment: this is a startup so everything can change

    About Zapier

For the past five years, Zapier has been helping people across the world automate the boring and tedious parts of their job. We do that by helping everyone connect the web applications they already use and love.

We believe that there are jobs a computer is best at doing and that there are jobs a human is best at doing. We want to empower businesses to create processes and systems that let computers do what they are best at doing and let humans do what they are best at doing.

We believe that with the right tools, you can have big impact with less hassle.

We believe in small teams. Small teams are fast and nimble. Small teams mean less bureaucracy and less management and more getting things done.

We believe that credentials don't say everything. Our CTO has a finance degree. Our CEO has an engineering degree. Our CPO has a mechanical engineering degree. What you love doing is way more important than the credentials you have.

We believe in a safe, welcoming and inclusive environment. All teammates at Zapier agree to a code of conduct.

    The Whole Package

    Location: Planet Earth.

If you want to work remote, that's great. If you want to work near others, that's cool too. Our product team is distributed across the US and Canada because it lets us work with the best people. You don't have to be located in North America either, you just have to be talented!

    Compensation:

    • Competitive salary (we don't use remote as an excuse to pay less)
    • Great healthcare + dental + vision coverage
    • Retirement plan with 4% company match
    • Profit sharing
    • 2 annual company retreats to awesome places
    • 14 weeks paid leave for new parents

Pick your own equipment. We'll set you up with whatever laptop + monitor combo you want plus any software you need.

Unlimited vacation policy (plus we insist you take at least 2 weeks off each year - this isn't a vague policy where unlimited vacation means no vacation). Work-life balance is really important to everyone at Zapier - we believe it and practice it!

Work with awesome companies around the world. We partner with great software companies all over the world and you'll constantly get to interact with people from these great companies.

At Better, we're making getting a mortgage fast, simple, and delightful. Recognized as the technology leader in mortgage lending, Better provides borrowers a superior home financing experience to any previously possible.

From our offices in Downtown NYC, we're revolutionizing a $12 trillion industry; building the future of real estate and consumer credit. Our team combines leading software engineers from companies like Spotify and Google with a mortgage bank that has three generations of experience. Together we're building groundbreaking technology driven by user-centric design principles, and making the mortgage experience what it should be - an exciting and delightful part of the biggest transaction in most Americans' lives.

    A Better Opportunity

As a Product Manager at Better, you'll be responsible for building products that will ultimately reduce the cost of homeownership in America. Day-to-day, you will find yourself in a wide variety of roles — ranging from a visionary, rearchitecting the needlessly complex mortgage process; to a data analyst, helping make a decision on what will make the most impact; to a problem solver, working together with top engineers and mortgage experts to resolve technical, operational, and marketing challenges.

Our company is still small, and you will be an integral part of defining how we solve our users' biggest problems: and we have lots of different types of users with their own fascinating needs — whether first-time homebuyers, seasoned financial whizzes seeking to refinance, internal bank operations, or the investors that purchase loans on our platforms. Your goal will be to build creative solutions to problems that don't just live in silos but solve the needs of everyone involved. And you won't be stuck in endless planning and prioritization meetings: the engineering and production teams sit together, and we deploy on a continuous basis, so you'll have a really tight feedback loop to constantly be improving the user experience.

In addition to dozens of fun problems to solve, we offer highly competitive compensation and full benefits, as well as meaningful equity.

    Attributes we value:

    • You have experience bringing large, complex projects all the way from idea, to implementation, through to ongoing improvement.
    • You have a solid technical proficiency and are a trusted partner of engineers. Ideally you write code yourself, but communicating about technical topics should be your forte.
    • You are a voracious and quick learner and can quickly get up to speed on any topic (most of us didn't know a thing about mortgages before we started).
    • You are clear in your specifications: you provide motivation for what to build, and can put together process flows, prototypes, sketches, and other artifacts to share your ideas thoroughly and effectively.
    • You are adept at asking the right questions of data and finding answers yourself to help guide you in making product decisions.
    • You are driven above all to improve the user experience — whether those users are within the company or end users — by listening to user feedback, performing research, and prioritizing according to long-term goals.
    • You have excellent communication skills and can partner with coworkers in marketing, operations, user experience, legal, and business roles.
    • Your interests and knowledge are broad. Some of the best ideas come from the intersection of disciplines, so side projects and explorations are a big plus!

    Product Manager - Kit

    Shopify

Marketing is the #1 challenge for most online merchants. Even with an amazing and unique product, it can be tough to drive traffic to your store. Taking the time to build and run marketing campaigns, and learn best practices and make your campaigns effective across numerous channels, is a lot to ask on top of running a business.

That's where Kit comes in. Kit is a fully-automated virtual employee that helps Shopify merchants grow their business. For many merchants, Kit is their first hire (and probably their best, because Kit always shows up on time, and never steals the good snacks in the office). Kit was built to manage small businesses' marketing tasks, so that entrepreneurs can focus on doing what they love: creating incredible products. All of Kit's marketing recommendations are driven by insights that Kit gains from looking at a merchant's customers, products, sales data, past behaviors, and industry trends and best practices. Merchants talk to Kit via a messaging platform such as Facebook Messenger or SMS.

Kit's highest priority is to drive sales for our merchants and thus make their businesses a success. Kit is above all smart, proactive, and simple -- Kit does the research to identify the most effective marketing opportunities, Kit automates the task so the merchant only has to say "Yes" to execute, and Kit optimizes and learns from each ad or campaign to get the best results. Our 2017 roadmap is broken into a few tracks:

    1) Adding skills to Kit's toolbox, i.e. new marketing channels, new ad types, international support.

    2) Building out the intelligence platform that powers Kit's recommendations

    3) Innovating on how merchants converse with Kit

We are located in San Francisco's Financial District, close to BART, and a short walk to the Ferry building.

    You'll need to:

    • Have a number of years of experience managing tech products. It doesn't matter so much what your job title was, so long as you have hands-on experience creating and leading tech products.
    • Be motivated by a passion to make a difference
    • Be genuinely excited about solving customer problems
    • Empathize with the merchant and use data to inform product decisions
    • Default to action and help your team do the same
    • Be a problem solver
    • Be a team player, coach, and referee all-in-one
    • Have great communication skills
    • Work well with stakeholders from multiple disciplines
    • Collaborate with designers, developers, marketers, and customers

It'd be great if you had experience with:

    • B2C products ideally (B2B if focused on data products)
    • Simplifying processes at scale (able to be scrappy and process driven)
    • Customer success
    • Some of the following industries are a big plus: Ad tech, marketing tech, commerce background, retail.

If you're interested in helping us shape the future of commerce, click the "Apply now" button to submit your application.

Experience comes in many forms, many skills are transferable, and passion goes a long way. If your experience is this close to what we're looking for, consider applying. We know that diversity of thought makes for the best problem-solving and creative thinking, which is why we're dedicated to adding new perspectives to the team and encourage everyone to apply.

We currently have five product teams working on all aspects of Blendle (like our award winning native apps, our recommendation engine and a collection of services to tie everything together). Each team consists of a bunch of crazy-smart people who are working together to build the best possible products (like our latest brainchild Blendle Premium).

To make sure we're building the right things, each team has a product manager who works with them to figure out where to go next. We're working with OKRs, which means a lot of autonomy and responsibility for you and your team. Together with your team, you decide on new features, you ship them as experiments and help make good, grounded decisions based on data and research. But it all comes down to building the best version of our apps we've ever had.

We are looking for a brilliant Product Manager who is going to take charge of our native iOS and Android Apps. In the last 2 years, we have built award-winning apps that were featured on the Apple App Store and all kinds of websites. We're super proud of what we have achieved so far, but at the same time we're looking for someone with experience in the mobile space to lead all our native efforts and get it to the next level.

Both of our apps are built based on the latest technology: our Android app is partly built on top of Kotlin, and a large chunk of our iOS app is built in Swift.

These are the top reasons we chose to join Blendle, in no particular order:

    1. Blendle fulfils an important task

Journalism is a vital component of any society, but even the greatest newspapers and magazines continuously show a decrease in sales. Blendle offers a new revenue stream which will help ensure the continuity of great journalism.

    2. Simultaneously, we make many people happy because they'll also be able to read all those brilliant articles without needing subscriptions

We enjoy creating a product that is enjoyed by over 650,000 users now and and hopefully it won't take too long before we reach millions of people.

    3. A fun team

There are eighty of us at Blendle. And there's a killer vibe. Check out these enviable snapshots of us at the office and on weekend trips

And anyone who doesn't care for weekend trips or swimming does something else. Because everyone does what feels right to them. Which brings us to number four:

    4. Freedom

You decide when and where you work. Roland starts his day opening his laptop on a Rotterdam balcony, Marten travels Europe by train pretty much every week so he can answer his e-mails (and conquer the world while he's at it), and Jean regularly spends the night talking to himself in our chat program whilst coding. We assume you know what works best for you, so you don't need us to make the rules. Another example: backend programmer Koen likes to attend our meetings virtually, as he's in Curaçao (and does a wonderful job there, too).

Hopefully there are multiple points on this list that make you just as enthusiastic as we are!

And that brings us to our inevitable wish list:

Your communication is crystal-clear. The balance between shipping and fine tuning is something you guard closely. You have a keen eye for detail, but you keep the big picture in mind as well. Saying no to stuff comes naturally to you.

You are responsible for managing the roadmap for one of the products we manage, together with the rest of the team, so you're constantly looking for the next step here.

    Ok, here is the list:

    • You can see yourself in at least 15 of the 21 signs on this list: https://medium.com/conquering-corporate-america/21-signs-youre-dating-a-product-manager-2ceabe1cfab2
    • You have extensive experience with shipping at least one complex product (but preferably more) on Android or iOS (but preferably both)
    • You're the type of person who cancels their date to watch the Apple Keynote (or drag your boy/girlfriend along)
    • You are a strong organizer
    • You have a passion for beautiful software and great products
    • Running AB tests is not something you only wished you could do some time in the future, but actually have experience with
    • You are able to translate hard and complex things into a simple story
    • You seek collaboration and are just a really nice and awesome person to work with

Do you match our user story?

Tell us why you think you're a good fit for us. Please don't send us your resumé, but tell us what projects you're proud of and what your role was in the process.

    • Passionate about great product. When a product doesn't work like you'd expect, you wonder, "Who was the PM on this?"
    • Not afraid of taking risks. "Make better mistakes tomorrow" ... "The biggest risk of all is not taking one."
    • Comfortable learning tools like Salesforce, Totango, Mixpanel and others; a metrics-obsessed, systems thinker who uses data to measure success.
    • Able to prioritize despite many competing interests by learning what's most important
    • Willing to lead with courage, transparency and empathy (managing by influence is one of the most challenging parts of being a great PM; these leadership traits help)
    • Not afraid to kill a project or to say "no."
