We feel that we will only achieve this if we're doing our best creative work—making a mess, having fun, experimenting a lot, keeping it fresh, and finding the kid inside us.

In this role, you will be the Product Lead on our Apple Agile/Scrum Team. You will be responsible for identifying our best opportunities to entertain kids ("kids first!"), grow the business, and evolve our portfolio efficiently. To do this, you will bring your product management experience and vast knowledge of the Apple ecosystem—partnering with Audience Product Owners (who bring expertise about their brand and their users) and Engineering leads—to make critical decisions about what we should work on next.

  • You are unafraid to have your opinion changed (strong beliefs, loosely held)
  • You have high product standards and the grit to achieve them
  • You're self-aware and successfully communicate at varying altitudes within the organization.
  • You have a broad skill set and can wear several hats when necessary
  • You are someone who wants to be in kids entertainment and you will advocate for kids in the products we build

At Better, we're making getting a mortgage fast, simple, and delightful. Recognized as the technology leader in mortgage lending, Better provides borrowers a superior home financing experience to any previously possible.

From our offices in Downtown NYC, we're revolutionizing a $12 trillion industry by simultaneously building the future of real estate and upgrading the consumer credit experience. Our team integrates leading software engineers from companies like Spotify and Google into a mortgage bank that has three generations of experience, creating an institution unlike any other. Together we're building groundbreaking technology driven by user-centric design principles, and the goal of making the mortgage experience what it should be – an exciting and delightful part of the biggest transaction in most people's lives.

A Better opportunity

Better is looking for a Product Manager to help our (product) team solve our users' biggest problems. All of our users have their own fascinating needs, whether they're first-time homebuyers in a competitive market, seasoned financial whizzes looking to refinance, or the investors that purchase loans on our platforms.

Our goal is to build a product that will ultimately reduce the cost of homeownership in America. Our team is still small, and you will have the opportunity to take ownership of small, medium, and large challenges, like going through bugs, triaging issues, and testing new features. We believe in building a meritocracy that rewards great work with greater responsibility, with the opportunity to make your own path within our organization.

Attributes we value

  • You have at least 1-2 years of experience bringing projects all the way from idea to implementation, through to ongoing improvement.
  • You have solid technical proficiency and are a trusted partner of engineers. Ideally, you write code yourself, but communicating about technical topics should be your forte.
  • You enjoy learning and can quickly get up to speed on any topic (most of us didn't know a thing about mortgages before we started).
  • You are adept at asking the right questions of data and finding answers yourself to help guide product decisions.
  • You have excellent communication skills and can partner with coworkers in marketing, operations, user experience, legal, and business roles.
  • Your interests and knowledge are broad. Some of the best ideas come from the intersection of disciplines, so side projects and explorations are a big plus!
  • Above all else, you are driven to improve the user experience (whether those users are within the company or end users) by listening to user feedback, performing research, and prioritizing according to long-term goals.

Quartz seeks a product manager based in New York to focus on advertising and business operations. It's a crucial job that touches all of our product offerings and sits at the center of our mission to make quality journalism thrive on the internet.

We are looking for someone who can think creatively about digital ad products, from how they are created to how our readers and viewers interact with them. Quartz is unusual for eschewing standard ad products and insisting on ads that are user-friendly and don't feel slapped on at the last minute. We don't use a mess of ad tech and try to build all of the important parts of our ad stack ourselves. That ad stack is the focus of this role.

As a product manager, your chief responsibilities are to see the entirety of your products, from their nitty-gritty details to their future potential, and to ensure a coherence among them. You speak for the reader, support your colleagues, and create conditions for everyone to do their best work. More specific roles include:

  • establishing and communicating the vision for each product;
  • defining success and ensuring that we are measuring it correctly;
  • prioritizing development with a view of the whole company's needs;
  • documenting all aspects of your products for the benefit of colleagues;
  • understanding our readers and making sure they are always represented;
  • identifying and filling in the gaps that emerge when doing something new;
  • ensuring strong communication among everyone involved in your products.

Product lives within the Quartz newsroom and includes engineering, design, product science, and product management. Our product managers divide up responsibility among our various products. You would be in charge of how advertising works in all of our products. Additionally, you'd oversee development of the tools and processes we use to create and serve our ads.

There are two profiles of the ideal candidate for this role, and we would happily accept applications from either. One is someone with extensive experience as a product manager in any field and a passion for news. The other is a journalist, developer, or designer who has helped develop news products in some capacity, whether it was officially called product management or not. In either case, we are looking for someone who is both creative and organized, opinionated and kind, visionary and detail-oriented. Above all you are an advocate for great work. Experience with digital advertising is a plus, but not required.

To apply, please submit a résumé and a cover letter that describes one product that you have worked on: the vision, challenges, progress, and so on.

Across Atlantic Media, generally, the firm looks for two "pillar gifts" in its candidates. In all of us, these are more aspirational than actual, but they are central in our intentions.

  1. Force of Intellect - Atlantic Media seeks a discipline and rigor of thought as manifested, often, in exceptional academic performance and, later, success in a professional environment.
  2. Spirit of Generosity - Equally, Atlantic Media seeks what we term a spirit of generosity - a natural disposition towards service and selfless conduct.

Atlantic Media is an EOE of Minorities/Women/Vets/Disability.
