Quartz seeks a product manager based in New York to focus on advertising and business operations. It's a crucial job that touches all of our product offerings and sits at the center of our mission to make quality journalism thrive on the internet.

We are looking for someone who can think creatively about digital ad products, from how they are created to how our readers and viewers interact with them. Quartz is unusual for eschewing standard ad products and insisting on ads that are user-friendly and don't feel slapped on at the last minute. We don't use a mess of ad tech and try to build all of the important parts of our ad stack ourselves. That ad stack is the focus of this role.

As a product manager, your chief responsibilities are to see the entirety of your products, from their nitty-gritty details to their future potential, and to ensure a coherence among them. You speak for the reader, support your colleagues, and create conditions for everyone to do their best work. More specific roles include:

  • establishing and communicating the vision for each product;
  • defining success and ensuring that we are measuring it correctly;
  • prioritizing development with a view of the whole company's needs;
  • documenting all aspects of your products for the benefit of colleagues;
  • understanding our readers and making sure they are always represented;
  • identifying and filling in the gaps that emerge when doing something new;
  • ensuring strong communication among everyone involved in your products.

Product lives within the Quartz newsroom and includes engineering, design, product science, and product management. Our product managers divide up responsibility among our various products. You would be in charge of how advertising works in all of our products. Additionally, you'd oversee development of the tools and processes we use to create and serve our ads.

There are two profiles of the ideal candidate for this role, and we would happily accept applications from either. One is someone with extensive experience as a product manager in any field and a passion for news. The other is a journalist, developer, or designer who has helped develop news products in some capacity, whether it was officially called product management or not. In either case, we are looking for someone who is both creative and organized, opinionated and kind, visionary and detail-oriented. Above all you are an advocate for great work. Experience with digital advertising is a plus, but not required.

Our Media Engineering team manages millions of new assets uploaded and created with JW Platform every month. Our responsibilities include our upload and ingest, transcoding, live streaming, and media intelligence (machine learning) products.

    You will drive our product vision and strategy for new and existing functionality relating to a subset of our Media Engineering products. The ideal candidate is or has been a product manager with experience in online video, video asset management, transcoding, video technologies and codecs, and experience in creating user-facing web application with amazing user experience and design. The ideal candidate has also created products that are delivered at scale and have worked with customers to solve their unique needs.

    Responsibilities include:

    • Partner with engineering to drive technical projects and provide leadership in an innovative and fast-paced environment
    • Define and execute product vision and strategy for existing and/or new product
    • Work with multiple stakeholders, both internal (sales, marketing, product, engineering, etc) and external (customers, partners) to gather and prioritize product/feature requirements
    • Collaborate with others Product Managers, UX/UI Designers and Engineering teams to deliver product functionality
    • Act as Product Owner & Product Manager in an Agile product development process
    • Be a technical liaison to Support Team and respond to high priority debugging and customer questions
    • Project management skills -- responsibility for the overall planning, execution and success of technical projects
    • Review and write functional specifications to communicate and guide product development
    • Integrate and analyze product usage to continually optimize performance and user experience
    • Set and manage KPIs for product growth to help attain company goals
    • Provide sales, support & API documentation for internal (marketing, sales) and external (customers, developers) consumers
    • Work closely with delivery and platform teams to maintain and optimize the fastest video playback experience everywhere

    Requirements

    • Motivated, self starter with a proven track record of taking products to market from idea conception to launch in a fast-paced environment
    • Technical background proven through experience or education
    • 2-3 years of product management or relevant work experience.
    • Familiarity with defining/describing the technical & business requirements of SaaS platforms, API integrations, etc.
    • Excellent problem-solving, organizational and analytical skills, with the ability to adapt to a changing environment
    • Experience with the agile product process from the product management perspective, either as a product manager/owner or as a product-managing engineer

    The Role:

    IOMEDIA is seeking a full-time Product Manager to join our Sports & Entertainment Team who excels within the digital space and is passionate about major sports, collegiate sports, concerts, and live entertainment.

    The Product Management team works closely with our UX/UI, engineering and sales & marketing teams to guide product conceptions to launch. You have the ability to break down complex problems and tackle problems in an agile workspace that requires deliveries in tight deadlines.
