FutureLearn is transforming access to education and is one of the world’s largest social learning platforms.

Based in London’s Camden Town, we offer online courses, programs and degrees run by over 100 leading universities from around the world including UCL, University of California Berkeley, University of Edinburgh, University of Melbourne, King’s College London, Purdue University and University of Groningen. We also work offer online courses from specialist education providers including CIPD, UNESCO and the Raspberry PI foundation.

Since our launch in September 2013, we’ve run hundreds of courses that have attracted over 7.5 million learners from all over the world and we've seen over 19 million enrolments on our open online courses and are now working with our partners to pioneer a more modular and accessible approach to studying full degrees.

We are looking for a Product Manager who will work in our Degrees and Pathways business area. The role will be a leadership position within the team responsible for enabling academics to construct and deliver fantastic learning experiences with ease to their students and informal learners. The Product Manager must be able to combine a drive for innovation in education, a relentless focus on the user experience and a pragmatic approach to ensure FutureLearn remains at the forefront of the industry.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Product Managers at FutureLearn are responsible for four key areas:

Understanding

  • Understanding and interpreting data and user research
  • Encouraging and managing ideas generated from learners, partners and staff
  • Working with marketers, developers and designers to understand complexity of different solutions

Planning

  • Evaluating and scoping opportunities based on learner, business and partner needs
  • Shaping the strategic direction of the product with the head of Degrees
  • Creating, managing and communicating roadmaps and backlogs for specific products
  • Developing explicit metrics to measure success and guide decision-making

Leading

  • Facilitate team decisions and resolving conflicts
  • Prioritising – (and saying ‘no’)
  • Defining and agreeing what ‘done’ looks like
  • Writing stories and defining scope
  • Celebrating success when the team’s outcomes are met
  • Encouraging innovation, both in what we create and how our product team works

Communicating

  • Communicating the vision for an area of our product, as well as roadmaps and plans, to the team
  • Facilitating collaborative development of the product roadmap with senior academic staff and technical leads across various universities
  • Facilitating workshops with stakeholders and product team members
  • Contributing to regular meetings such as sprint reviews
  • Sharing information regularly with other teams to understand their plans

REQUIREMENTS

Essential

  • Experience of working as a mid-senior level Product Manager in an agile, cross-functional team
  • Experience successfully working with a broad range of external stakeholders to understand requirements
  • Ability to shape a roadmap formed from user, external stakeholder and business needs
  • Experience of facilitating developers, designers, user researchers and others to successfully deliver projects in a hands-on way
  • Ability to communicate vision, decisions and progress to a range of stakeholders verbally and in writing
  • An interest in the future of education, thrive on exploring pioneering new ways of doing things and be passionate about creating delightful solutions.

Desirable

  • Experience of facilitating collaborative development of a product roadmap with senior academic staff and technical leads in the higher education sector
  • Knowledgeable about technical integration with university systems
  • Previous use of OKRs to define focus and success with a team
